Pristina media: Merkel's and Macron's envoys to visit next week

A French-German delegation, consisting of advisers to Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, is due to visit Pristina next week, writes Pristina-based Gazeta Express.

Citing its sources, Express writes that Jan Hecker from the German chancellor's cabinet and Emnanuel Bonne from the French president's team will arrive in Pristina

In connection to this, the media outlet sent questions to Merkel's cabinet but Berlin, they say, neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of this visit.

"In principle, we do not provide information about the agenda of chancellor's advisers," said a spokesman for Merkel's office, Express writes.

The two main reasons for the visit of the envoys of Merkel and Macron are said to be continuation of the dialogue with Belgrade on normalization of relations, and revoking of taxes on products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Express recalls that Prime Minister of Provisional Pristina Institutions Albin Kurti previously announced a gradual and conditional abolition of the taxes, first on raw materials startng on April 1 and then on all other products for 90 days, if Belgrade ends its campaign for "de-recognition" of so-called Kosovo.

Chancellor Merkel's government considers such a decision by Kurti to be the first step towards the complete revoking of the taxes, which is the ultimate goal.

On the other hand, Macron is in favor of complete and unconditional abolition of the taxes and has expressed his willingness to organize a summit in Paris in order to resume the dialogue.
