"This is a gift from God, she is a rubber child": Teodora leaves hospital after being hit by a truck

Little Teodora, 9, from Paracin, a girl who was hit by a truck a few days ago, is feeling well and will be leaving the hospital tomorrow. This has been confirmed for Telegraf.rs by her mother Marijana Djordjevic, who said that she received the good news from a doctor.

"The doctor said the child was well, and that we are going home tomorrow. Everything regrading the brain and the head is fine. My daughter is great compared to how she could have been. This is like winning the lottery, a gift of God. She's a rubber girl. God saved her," Marijana tells Telegraf.rs.

Considering that Teodora's family lives in difficult conditions, a large number of people in Paracin have expressed their desire to help her mother, brothers and sister.

"Some people made contact wishing to help us, but her health is my first concern. Nothing else interests me now, just for my child to be well," says Marijana.

Teodora has four siblings and they are all underage. The oldest brother is 17 years old. The six of them live in a house that Marijana rents, and which she says is not even safe to live in.

"I'm afraid that the third room is going to collapse. We live in two rooms, with a leaking roof. I don't own it, so I can't fix or renovate. I don't even know how much I owe, I don't know where my head is," says Marijana.

The father of the family passed away a few months ago from lung disease that led to sepsis. The only source of income for Teodora and her family right now is social welfare.

The girl was injured on Friday around 5 pm as she was going to a store to buy toothpaste. A tow truck collided with her as she was jaywalking. After the impact, she fell under the truck, but luckily, in between the wheels. The truck driver didn't stop and, as he told the police later, he didn't even realize that he had hit a child.

Two criminal charges have brought against him under regular procedure: for failing to assisting a person in a traffic accident and for forging number plates, that is, using plates that belong to a different vehicle. A test revealed no alcohol in his blood.

The truck was driven by N.I. (55), a resident in Paracin. His green truck is used to tow other vehicles and had German license plates.
