Prosecution awaits police report on "people's patrols" in Belgrade "bringing order" among migrants
The Belgrade Public Prosecutor's Office is waiting for a police report to decide whether to initiate criminal proceedings in the case of "people's patrols" organized by the "No surrender of Kosovo and Metohija" initiative, which names its members in this way, and whose goal as they themselves say is to "bring order" among migrants.
The higher public prosecutor's office immediately after being notified about the "people's patrols" ordered the police to carry out checks related to these events happening in downtown Belgrade, prosecution spokeswoman Irena Bjelos told Tanjug.
It was requested to obtain and review a recording of this event, which was posted on the internet and on social media, showing that members of this initiative, wearing hoods, were patrolling the downtown and informing migrants not to move outside the central parts of the city from 10 pm untilo 6 am, and during the day not to move in groups of more than three people.
The review of the footage will determine whether there are elements of a criminal offense which is prosecuted ex officio, Bjelos stressed.
In the footage of the people's patrols, one of the organizers, Damnjan Knezevic, says that they organized to protect Serbian citizens, especially women and children, from migrants, that people's patrols will be on the streets every coming evening, and that migrants will not profit from "doing stupid things, bothering our women, children, people..."
"We are not the government, we are not the police, and we will respond like regular folk, and that benefits nobody," he said in the video posted on social networks.
The Ministry of the Interior, MUP, told Tanjug that they informed the competent prosecutor's office, which ordered all the facts and circumstances regarding the said event and the publicly available recordings to be examined.
That video of the "people's patrol" conversation with migrants in downtown Belgrade had nearly 100,000 views to date.
