"Status quo is unsustainable": Borrell calls for Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to resume immediately
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell welcomed the formation of a new Pristina government, which he urged to continue the dialogue with Belgrade immediately.
"There is no alternative to a prompt continuation of talks on normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina," Borrell said.
EU foreign policy chief says the new government, led by Albin Kurti, has a lot of work ahead to implement the Stabilization and Association Agreement, the Reform Agenda and promotion of the rule of law and socio-economic development.
"Regional cooperation must improve, as should good neighborly relations. In this context, we expect the EU-sponsored Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to resume quickly in order to achieve a comprehensive normalization of relations," Borrell stressed.
The EU high representative added that the current "status quo" in the dialogue is unsustainable.
Borrell urged for renewed engagement of so-called Kosovo in regional initiatives and cooperation structures in the Western Balkans.
"The challenges facing Kosovo are great, but the potential is also great," Borrell said.
He reiterated EU's readiness to "assist Kosovo in the reform process especially when it comes to strengthening the rule of law for all" as well as improving public administration that should serve the citizens, and in creating jobs.
