Agro Belgrade 2020 starts: 500 exhibitors, cooperatives, equipment makers and machinery in 3 days

The first international specialized Fruit, Wine and Vegetable Growing Fair in Serbia has been opened at the Belgrade Fair, with organizers announcing that more than 500 exhibitors, cooperatives, equipment and machinery makers will be presented over the three days.

Opening the fair, Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic stressed that the focus is on advanced agriculture and modern production and processing systems, which is important for Serbia's better performance in foreign markets. He pointed out that, after Vojvodina, the most unused agricultural land is located in the vicinity of Belgrade.

He said that a lot of money will be invested in a land consolidation project in the future, and that it's necessary to carry out electrification of fields in all parts of Serbia and to carry out a pilot project implemented in Zitoradja, Trstenik and Leskovac throughout Serbia.

The minister of agriculture also addressed the adoption of the Law on Employment of Seasonal Workers, stating that there are now more than 26,000 workers in the system, most ly in vegetable and fruit growing, as well as 300 employers, and added that they are all protected.

Compared to 2013, Belgrade is spending 12 times more money on agricultural incentives. At the time, the city was allocating 20 million, and this year the number will be 240 million dinars, pointed out Belgrade City Economy Secretary Milinko Velickovic. He announced that in the next three weeks, four public invitations from the areas of fruit and vegetable growing, beekeeping and agricultural machinery will be announced.
