In 5 days the price of cigarettes goes up, here is how much those you smoke will cost now

Due to the new increase in the excise tax, it is expected that the price of cigarettes will go up by an average of 10 dinars.

Cigarette producers, as a rule, adjusts to the six-monthly increase, which is ultimately reflected on consumers and in the price of a pack of cigarettes. This tax has been increased by one and a half dinars, so the state has been taking 73 dinars per packet from producers since the New Year, instead of the previous 71.5 dinars.

This is the norm foreseen in the excise calendar, which was adopted in 2017 and is valid until June 2020. This implies that the specific excise duty is to be increased twice a year. With it, the price of cigarettes includes a proportional excise tax of 33 percent of the price, and VAT is added to all this.

Cigarette producers previously filed a request for a price hike to the government, with the new prices coming into force on February 3. This was also published in the Official Gazette of Serbia.

The price of Philip Morris cigarettes will increase first, so a pack of Bond will cost 270 dinars starting on February 3. Marlboro will cost 360, while Flavor Touch will be 320 (it now costs 310); Parliament Aqua Blue will cost 400 dinars.

Except for cigarettes, prices are also adjusted for cut tobacco. Serbia must meet EU standards, which stipulate that the minimum excise duty is 90 euros per 1,000 cigarettes.

In Serbia, it is now around 60 euros, which puts our country among those with cheapest cigarettes.
