Dragan is alone in eery building, sometimes speaks with post office clerk; rare guests visit tavern
There is only one man, Dragan Bjelanovic, left today in a building that was once home to 40 residents in the village of Jasenovo near Nova Varos. The only person with whom he can exchange a few words is the post office clerk whose outpost is located on the ground floor of this now eery structure.
"40 years ago, this place was full of life, the building was full, and now if there weren't for this woman working here, this would be a disgrace. I speak with her a little, and on the weekends there is not a living soul, I'm silent, because I have no one to say either good day or good evening to," Dragan tells RINA.
The golden age of Jasenovo was marked by two textile factories. There was a post office, a bank, an ambulance, a slaughterhouse and a store in the center of the village. Now even receiving a television signal is a luxury.
"In that market you could buy literally everything from the needle to the locomotive, there was no need to go to town. There were about 30 workers in the local tavern, about 1000 coffees were brewed every day - and now when someone comes through the door, we experience it as a world wonder," recalls this man who lives alone in the building.
The memory of the pleasant past is now the main theme for the remaining residents of Jasenovo.
The crying of a newborn baby has not been heard for several years, so the locals invite young people to come here, move in because the price of property per square meter is very low - while life expectancy is 100 years.
