Trans person baptized in Podgorica church: Vuk receives metropolitan's blessing
Trans person Vuk Adzic was baptized on Sunday, with the blessing of the Serbian Orthodox Church Metropolitan of Montenegro Amfilohije and the Metropolinate, at the Temple of Christ's Resurrection in Podgorica, said LGBT Forum Chairwoman Bojana Jokic.
She added that Adzic was baptized under the name of Vuk, although he still has a female name in his identity card, CdM reports.
"Vuk is a trans guy who has not yet gone through the entire transition. There are no words to describe this feeling of happiness and pride. Today, Christian love for humans has overcome all differences. Thank you metropolitan for reaching out with your arms ready to embrace all your children," Jokic wrote on Facebook.
The portal reports that Adzic was baptized wearing a traditional Montenegrin costume, while Bojana Jokic added that this was the first case of a baptism of a trans person who had not yet undergone transition.
"The state is not ready to accept his identity before the transition, instead he has a female name in all the documents, but the Serbian Orthodox Church accepted it and the baptism document states that his name is Vuk," said Jokic.
