Serbian and Russian army begin joint exercise: S-400 and Pantsir-S arrive in Serbia

A joint tactical live fire drill with air defense missile units of the Serbian Army's Air Defense (PVO) and the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS), dubbed "Slavic Shield 2019," is currently in progress in Serbia, the Ministry of Defense has announced.

The exercise will be implemented in the area of ​​the airport named after Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlovic in Batajnica and in the Pasuljanske Livade training range, with the involvement of other Air Force and Air Defense units of the Serbian Army.

Russia's Defense Ministry has announced that an S-400 division and a Pantsir-S battery have been transferred to Serbia, where they will participate for the first time in training abroad, Sputnik reported.

The aim of the exercise is to educate and use joint air defense groups of the PVO and the VKS in providing air defense to the territory and military forces against reconnaissance and enemy activities in the air, as well as to train commands and units for the preparation and execution of air defense operations.

The exercise is led by the commander of the 250th Air Force and Air Defense Missile Brigade, Brigadier General Tiosav Jankovic.

In addition to air defense missile systems that are deployed in the Serbian Army, the exercise will also use air defense missile systems from the Russian Aerospace Forces.
