Taxi drivers to radicalize protest and block Belgrade during rush hour

  • 0

Belgrade taxi drivers have announced a radicalization of their protest for today. Gazela and other bridges will not be blocked, but the strike will be extended by one hour, so today it will last from 2 pm to 5 pm, during the time of day when many people are returning home from work.

As during previous days, taxi drivers will completely shut down traffic from the London neighborhood to the Mostar Loop, and from Slavija to Sava Square.

"As before, we will depart from four points in the city (Block 70, Obrenovac Road toward Cukarica, Pionir Hall and Kumodraska Street) and drive toward the Government building in Nemanjina Street," said Aleksandar Bjelic of the Autotaksi Association of Serbia.

Yesterday he said that, on the advice of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the protester abandoned the idea of having taxi drivers in Belgrade joined by their colleagues from Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac and Pancevo.

Today will be the 11th day that taxi drivers are protesting. After the hints that Gazela and other bridges could be blocked, the Interior Ministry announced that they would not allow anyone to block the highway.
