Popular job in Serbia, but there's not enough guides for tourists from China, Japan, Scandinavia
Politika daily writes that Serbia has enough English speaking tour guides, but the same is not the case when it comes to Chinese, Japanese, Scandinavian, Arabic, Turkish, and even the Russian language.
The problem is that tour guides are mostly looking for work in big cities, while there are not enough of them in smaller ones.
That is why the Association of Tourist Guides is constantly promoting this profession all over Serbia in cooperation with local communities, with the intention of getting young people interested in taking the professional exam.
According to data from the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, there are currently 2,217 licensed tour guides and 653 tour escorts in Serbia, 70 percent of whom speak English.
