Kosovo elections: Serb List celebrates winning 10 seats, Kurti wins among Albanians

Snap parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo and Metohija on Sunday, with 1.9 million eligible voters electing representatives in the parliament of the provisional provincial institutions.

The polling stations closed at 7 pm.

A total of 120 seats in the Kosovo Assembly was up for grabs, of which a total of 20 were guaranteed to minorities in Kosovo, 10 of which belong to Serb representatives.

Results of the Central Election Commission of Kosovo after 92.85 percent of the vote has been counted:

The Self-Determination Movement - 25.85 percent

The Democratic Alliance of Kosovo - 24.95 percent

The Democratic Party of Kosovo - 21.28 percent

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo Coalition - the Social Democratic Party - 11.58 percent

The Serb List - 6.27 percent

Other political entities - 10.17 percent

Invalid ballots - 4.93 percent

"I, as the president of this movement, declare victory of the Self-Determination Movement," Albin Kurti said in a statement to the media in Pristina.

23:07 - Kosovo police detain 29 people on election day

The Kosovo police announced last night that they had arrested a total of 29 people on election day and that 23 of them had been detained. An operational plan for securing elections has been successfully implemented, according to the Kosovo police.

"The Kosovo police have successfully implemented an operational plan for the unobstructed running of the electoral process, aimed at ensuring security as well as maintaining the law, order and public security in Kosovo before and after the election process."

"A part of the police plan was the initiation and prosecution of any act against the right to vote and the taking of all procedural or criminal actions against the violators of the law," said a police statement.

Referring to official information, several cases of different nature were identified that resulted in the arrest of 29 persons, while the offenses they committed relate to the electoral process, of which 23 were detained at the discretion of the competent prosecutors, the Kosovo Police statement said.

23:02 - Kadri Veseli: The Democratic Party of Kosovo goes to the opposition

President of the Democratic Party of Kosovo Kadri Veseli said at a news conference that the party worked hard to win the election, but has failed.

"The citizens have given their last word and we accept it. The Democratic Party of Kosovo is moving to the opposition, but we will continue to serve the people and the state," Veseli said at the press conference.

This party has been a member of the government in Kosovo since 2007.

22:04 - Celebration of the Serb List in Kosovska Mitrovica

After a convincing result in the province's snap elections, Serb List officials addressed the media.

"I declare victory of Serb unity, I declare victory of Serb concord," said leader of the Serb List Goran Rakic, speaking in a square in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.

After his address, a celebration began in Kosovska Mitrovica.

22:01 - Dacic: Victory of the Serb people in Kosovo

First Deputy Prime Minister and SPS leader Ivica Dacic said the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija won on  Sunday by voting overwhelmingly for the Serb List.

"Despite huge pressure and bans by Pristina, Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija voted for Serbia, for unity with their state of Serbia and with their leadership, led by President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian government," Dacic told Tanjug.

He stressed that this is "a debacle of the fake Albanian state and those parts of the international community who wanted to have 'their own' Serbs in Kosovo."

"They received a strong and unison response from the Serb people," Dacic said.

9:56 PM - 10 seats for the Serb List

President Aleksandar Vucic announced last night that the Serb List achieved the most convincing victory in its history winning 98.07 percent of the vote in parliamentary elections and taking all 10 seats in the Pristina parliament reserved for Serb representatives.
