Arranged marriage abroad: Montenegrin man sells his 12-year-old daughter for 5,000 euros
The Montenegrin police today filed a criminal complaint against 40 year-old DZ.B. from Podgorica, on reasonable suspicion that he had committed the criminal offense of Trafficking in Human Beings.
It is suspected that DZ.B. in 2017 abused a relationship of dependency to recruit, arrange, and organize transportation from Montenegro of his minor daughter, then 12 years old, to a foreign country, for the purpose of illegal marriage.
He is suspected of having committed this criminal offense in order to gain 5,000 euros.
He is serving a prison sentence at the Spuz prison for another crime.
"Proactive investigations in the fight against trafficking in human beings have been intensified with the creation of a new Section for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Smuggling and Illegal Migration within the Police Directorate, and with the establishment of an Operational Team for Combating Trafficking in Human Being," the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The statement added that since the formation of the Operational Team, seven investigations have been launched in the area of combating trafficking in human beings, two of which have so far received an epilogue.
