Petrovic said last night that all the shops were closed - food stores, boutiques, catering facilities, and even taxi drivers stopped working, and that bakeries and gas stations are not working.

He added that the merchants decided on this move because they were unable to work after the introduction of taxes.

Petrovic said that merchants suffered great pressure from Kosovo's services, police, inspectorates, and others.

- Merchants were not able to work anymore and they decided to close their shops here in the north - said Petrovic.

When asked how long is this situation going to last, he said that he doesn't know.

- We have appealed to the international community to respond as soon as possible to remove the taxes so we could do normal business and to continue normal life here in the north - said Petrovic.

Asked if the stores are going to be closed until the taxes are abolished, Petrovic responded that they will be closed until further notice.

- We will have daily meetings where we will decide what to do depending on the situation on the terrain - he explained.
