While everyone was running away from bombs to the basement, Igor ran to the terrace: He recorded historical footage with a TV camera of Vranje in flames (VIDEO)
20 years ago, NATO bombers shot the Pljackovica hill above Vranje for the first time, which was a "legitimate" target considering that the TV and radio antennas were placed there.

The bombs fell just a few hundred meters from the last houses in Vranje. In the following days, Pljackovica was struck four more times, and the last time was with ammo with depleted uranium.
Igor Ivanovic, a cameraman of Radio Television of Serbia, recorded the historic moments while the bombs were falling on Pljackovica.
He already had experiences as a war cameraman in fronts in Croatia, as he said, he was guided by some intuition, he managed to capture unique shots during the bombing of Vranje and the vicinity.
- I was home right before the bombing of Pljackovica. The hill is around 2 km away from it, I have heard the planes coming, I took the camera and I ran towards the terrace. I could be heard that the planes are coming down and shooting projectiles. I have expected that the antenna of RTS will be shot because NATO was hitting targets like that all over Serbia.
I have focused camera towards the top of Pljackovica in the following seconds and the video was created. I have recorded other moments when Pljackovica was bombed, and also the bombing of antennas on Besna Kobila.
We have tried to capture and record everything we could during the bombing. Personally, I was guided by professional ethics and memory of everybody who could go over Albania to save those moments for the coming generations - remembers Ivanovic.
After hitting the antennas of RTS, the entire south of Serbia practically remained without a TV signal.
- It is an unpleasant feeling when you are watching the antennas being struck for the television you are working for. Besides me, the bombing of Pljackovica was recorded by cameramen of Radio Television Vranje - adds Ivanovic.
The recordings of Plajkovica bombing are almost indispensable details of each attachment or documentary film when it comes to the NATO aggression in the FRY.
Also, their value has become more and more important, when it became known that Pljakovica was struck by depleted uranium.
Clouds of dust, smoke, earth, and rocks could be seen on the footages, which were scattered all over Vranje and vicinity by the wind.
It is presumed that the particles reached the food chain, so 20 years after, Vranje and Pcinja region are the first in entire Serbia in the number of cancer cases.
