British media opened fire on Croats: Vacation there is more expensive than in Turkey, Spain, or Greece, they increase prices every year
A seven-day vacation in Zadar is more expensive than in Paphos in Cyprus, Marmaris in Turkey, the Mallorca and Costa del Sol in Spain, as well as in the Bulgarian resort Sunny Beach, a survey conducted by the British tabloid Sun reported.
Croatia shares the fate of most Mediterranean countries that are struggling with falling demand in comparison to last year, which causes the prices to drop up to 20 percent, so the increase in Zadar by 12.7 percent certainly raises attention, states the Croatian "Vecernji List" which dealt with the research of British tabloid.
"Vecernji" states that you can spend a summer in Croatia with less than 3.500 euros, the needed amount the "Sun" has estimated for 7 days vacation.
Aside from that, states the Croatian paper, the Adriatic prices are special and there is almost no one who returned from vacation from the Croatian coast without feeling that he paid too much for something.
A cappuccino for six euros, a kilogram of grapes for 10, a hamburger for 22, a sandwich of 13.5 euros are just some of the "wild" summer prices on the Adriatic, writes "Vecernji list".
Inflated prices, marked the "Sun", are the part of the Adriatic folklore, but for the director of Croatian tourism organization, Veljko Ostojic, the truth about prices has many faces.
- Any comparison with the competition is good to show us the context of the market where we all work together. Although we shouldn't fight the competition with prices, but with quality, which then allows higher prices. We can't allow ourselves to let people think that Croatia is too expensive. We have to be aware that we have the greatest VAT in the Mediterranean and we have a limited space to determine prices - said Ostojic for "Vecernji".
