Students asked the EU ambassador if the only way for Serbia to enter the Union is to recognize Kosovo: This is what Fabrizi said
The head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, said today that he remains cautiously optimistic when it comes to reaching an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina and pointed out that there is no alternative to dialogue, and that status quo is not an option.
- I do not think there is a possibility to maintain this situation, the status quo is not an option, it does not help either Serbia or Pristina. There is a need for the dialogue to continue and to reach an agreement - Fabrizi told the students at the Faculty of Political Science.
When asked by students if the only way for Serbia to join the EU is to recognize Kosovo, Fabrizi said that EU is not the mediator in the dialogue and they do not prescribe or comment on the content of the agreement.
Fabrizi said that it is the EU's common position, although some of its members do not recognize Kosovo, that Belgrade and Pristina must normalize its relationship and they stated that the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina should be in line with the international law, achieved on the compromise and it should be sustainable.
