Stones and bottles were flying: The footage of the attack on the police officers in Belgrade (VIDEO)

A group of protesters, who have been in front of the city police in the street of Despot Stefan, had fought the police, but the situation settled down after the organizers of the protest asked them to calm down.

It is not known what has caused the conflict, and one of the protesters has been arrested, while the rest answered by throwing the bottles.

According to the footage, the gathered were shouting "let the children go", and one of them threw a traffic cone on the police officers, who were holding up their shields.

The organizers announced that three more persons were arrested and they will be detained for 48 hours.

In the meantime, the director of police, Vladimir Rebic, responded:

- Many police officers, who honestly performed their job, trying to secure the stable public order and peace, suffered injuries due to the physical attacks of the violent protesters. The violent protesters unscrupulously attacked the police officials in the past two days who were trying to provide security on the street, on the work, or anywhere else. They chose anything, stones, bottles, and one part of the protesters attacked the police officers, trying to break through the cordon. There was a proposition to break through the police with a vehicle, and a knife was taken from one of the protesters. I expect the authorities to punish this kind of behavior and we won't allow anyone to commit violence - said Rebic.

Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Interior and Head of the Human Resources Sector, Katarina Tomasevic, said she is proud of police officers.

- I am proud of the police officials who showed calmness, performing their duty in preserving public order and peace, while the people gathered threw stones, cans, and anything they could get on the police officers, without any cause. I am stunned by the attacks and violence of the protesters towards the police officials which we witnessed. I strongly condemn every kind of violence and I think that the state should take all necessary measured in accordance with the law against the perpetrators - said Tomasevic.
