Sorbonne has lost him and Belgrade received one of the best students ever: A genius graduated from two universities, with perfect scores
Vojislav Gligorovski (23) from Belgrade managed to be one of the rare students who got into Sorbonne. However, it appears that, which is the case with many talented students, the money plays a big role with knowledge, and it is often the blockade to the most prestigious universities. Sorbonne has lost, and the university in Belgrade received one of the best Serbian students.
- In the end, I decided and I practically remained in Serbia. I did not regret that, it was much better chose. I realized that the theoretical knowledge that our faculties offer is much deeper and more extensive, even in comparison with world universities. They are only better with postgraduate studies - said Vojislav.
The result of that was two student's indexes in his hands, of Faculty of Biology and Faculty of Electrical Engineering. He graduated both with the highest, perfect scores: 10.00. Raised bar of success and all perfect 10's were received with the mixed hesitancy and love for more natural sciences.
- I have graduated from the Mathematical Gymnasium, and then I couldn't make a decision. I am interested in biology but I was also good in other subjects, and I didn't want to "throw away" that knowledge - he explains.
In 2014, the Ministry of Youth and Sport reacted right away and announced that they will come up with the solution to help the young genius from Serbia, but that didn't happen.
SUCCESS ON GOOD FOUNDATIONS
Although students barely manage to balance even one faculty, the boy who managed to become a member of Mensa at the age of 17 (which is the lower limit to join this association), explains that he owns a good part of the success to the Mathematical gymnasium and the professors who set up good foundations of knowledge. That is why he had the "luxury" to skip a part of the classes on the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
- I would rarely ask professors to help me with universities. However, it is my choice, and I was lucky enough that the lectures on Faculty of Electrical Engineering were not mandatory. When they were I would go with another group - he said and adds.
- For most of the exams, in both universities, I have great literature from our professors. I am following the lectors and the others would help me when there isn't enough material. I study when I have the time. I am not a regular student. I have seen that I can accomplish that perfect score in the first year and I just continued.
Only Physics 1 came close of messing up with the perfect score.
- I had the best professor of physics in my high school and really good results so I thought that I knew and that is why I was annoyed when I got 9. I had to annul it - he said through laughter.
With the approach that he is not dividing life to social and the time to study his studies are definitely far easier.
- Everything was more or less spontaneous, but certainly, everything is the result of great motivation when there are times for exams. I was barely studying during the semester, so I had the time to do other things. And when the time came, I just studied for exams. I love riding a bike and learning foreign languages in my free time.
- I have nothing special to reveal in the way I study. I don't like repeating out loud, it seems to me that is learning by heart. I like to preserve the books, so I am not underlining them.
Ph.D. studies in Switzerland
Perhaps he didn't go to the university in Paris, but he is walking around Lausanne today, in the French-speaking area, while the Ph.D. studies in this Swiss town are in English.
- I have been in Lausanne since September. There is less studying, more work. I have no exams, I work as an assistant. I am working on a Ph.D. program for computational biology, and the doctoral thesis is, or the project I work on, from system biology. It is an area on the cross-section of mathematics and biology.
RETURN TO SERBIA WITH ALL OF THE KNOWLEDGE
The future is still uncertain, but his wish is to improve science in Serbia.
- The plain is to return at some point, but only after I have gathered all of the knowledge and I make enough progress in system biology and I find good enough questions and topics which can be dealt with in Serbia. I think that we have a lot of smart and interested people who can deal with these areas, but our greatest potential is in theory and computer areas because we are falling behind in experimental areas.
- There are a lot of us from Serbia, especially from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, mostly in Zurich and Lausanne - said Vojislav.
