In the last six months, in the area of the Police Administration of Bjelovar-Bilogora, there have been two cases of fraud. Two female persons, aged around 60, were tricked by unknown perpetrators, users of fake Facebook accounts, where they pose as American soldiers, stationed somewhere in peace missions in the world.

106 people arrested and 10 gangs destroyed: Serbs involved in most organized international crime

In both cases the frauds started the communication first by sending the pictures of themselves in the uniforms and on the missions, they stated that they have a large amount of money that they will share with the persons they contacted and they got the trust of these women. In both cases, they said that they have a large amount of money that they can't keep with them and they would like to send the money somewhere, but in order to avoid the customs, they suggested to send the money with packages.

WOMEN PAID THE MONEY

In both cases, the unknown perpetrators deluded the women that they have to pay a certain amount of money in order for them to send the package in the first place. Women paid the amounts, one of them paid over Western Union to a name in Indonesia, and the other one paid to the IBAN account in Torino in Italy.

The first person didn't want to pay anymore after the first amoung, although the perpetrator lured her to pay more because he was robbed and he is gathering the money and he can't pay the expenses.

The second person, after the first two payments, received the message that the customs in London confiscated the package and she has to pay more, which she did to the same account. After that, she received more messages to make more payments, and when she didn't want to pay any more, he blocked her profile on Facebook.

The first woman lost around 1.075 euros, while the other one lost around 24.000 euros.

In both cases, those were the older women who live alone, who are retired, and in both cases, the perpetrators promised them that they will come to visit them in Croatia. In one case they even promised to live together.

Croatian portal warned the citizens, especially the older ones, that those were fake profiles which are easy to make because the pictures of American soldiers are easily accessible on the internet and not to accept those kinds of persons on Facebook, and especially not to fall for these or any similar frauds over social networks.

Crime investigation in both cases is still ongoing.
