Serbia could open three new negotiating chapters for the membership in the European Union by the end of this year, writes "Novosti" in a Monday edition.

Serbia is making a property list in Croatia worth 1.8 billion euros

According to the newspaper, as the Union is currently chaired by Austria, which has a priority of bringing Western Balkans closer to EU, their representatives will do everything in order for Serbia to make a significant step in euro-integrations.

Serbia has opened two negotiating chapters in June in Luxembourg, and the number of open chapters climbed to 14, of total 35, and two of them are closed.

"Novosti" recall that Serbia was already ready to open three more chapters at that time, but due to political reasons, some member states did not allow for faster integration.

There are chapters that are still waiting their turn in the drawers of the Brussel administration: Financial services (9), Economic and Monetary Policy (17) and Statistics (18).

- We are making a slow progress, we are discussing regularly at the meetings of the Work Group for enlargement about Serbia, and some states consider that we shouldn't rush things so much - a high ranking source from European Council said to "Novosti".

The interlocutor adds that it would be too early to expect the opening of new chapters in October and that the real deadline is the end of the year.

Serbia plans to prepare for the opening of another chapter, a chapter on consumer and health protection.

Representatives of member states are currently determining whether Serbia has met the criteria for opening this chapter.
