Murderer from Malta was arrested for robbery in Serbia: His friend told on him to the police and he revealed a real truth about him (PHOTO)

Hugo Chetcuti (52), millionaire and businessman from Malta, was wounded by a Serb Bojan Cmelik (35), according to his own testimony. However, as Telegraf found out, that identity is false and his real last name is Mitic.

He used a fake passport during his stay abroad. He attacked the "King of Malta" in front of his own restaurant, and he stabbed him lethally, twice. Mitic is currently in custody on this island, he has a rich criminal file in Serbia.

Chetcuti, one of the richest men on Malta, was the owner of the brand "Hugo" and of a chain of luxurious restaurants and clubs all over the island, widely known as a rich men's playground.

Bojan Mitic is accused of having walked into the newest Chetcuti boutique hotel in Paceville on Friday at about 22.30 in Malta, he approached a businessman, embraced him and stabbed him into the stomach, in front of numerous witnesses.

The witness of a gruesome attack was the businessman's sister who first ran for help when he fell to the ground. He was quickly transferred to a hospital, was operated on several occasions, but he couldn't be helped.

As Telegraf finds out, Bojan's old acquaintance told on him to the police about his true identity. It turned out that it was a former Serbian convict.

BOJAN MITIC HAS A CRIMINAL RECORD 

Mitic has participated in many armed robberies in Serbia, and the Maltese police are still investigating his past.

Bojan was one of seven men who was arrested for armed robbery in 2005 in Belgrade. They stole six million dinars and transportation marks, valued at around 10 million. Mitic managed to escape at the time, but he was arrested several years later. He spent almost six years in prison, he was released in 2016.

During the search of the apartments of the suspects, a large quantity of foreign currency and dinars was found, as well as stolen marks, two automatic rifles, imitations of pistols, "phantom" masks, metal cash registers for transferring money of the Public transport company "Belgrade", ammunition, forged money in euros.

A CHILDHOOD FRIEND TOLD ON MITIC 

- I knew Bojan since when we were kids, I remember that he was an athlete, he liked basketball - the source said.

- I can't believe that he would do something like that! I was shocked by the news! He was normal, I was surprised because of the robbery. That was a big thing back then because it was stealing of the state money - said the source.

Mitic traveled to Malta when he was released from a Serbian prison. He found a job in one of the local facilities Hugo owned.

According to the source, he moved there because his brother was working as a bartender in one of the bars, which was also owned by the businessman.

As we found out, his brother escaped from Malta last week, right after the murder.

However, the motive for Hugo murder remains unclear. Mitic was fired 8 months ago, allegedly because he was drunk while working, but the spokesman of the company said that he showed no signs of aggression.

THE ARREST OF MITIC

After the stabbing, Mitic escaped towards the city Slema, but the cousins of the injured Chetcuti called the police. The police stopped Cmelik who decided "not to go down without a fight".  He resisted arrest, he even injured several police officers. In the end, they took him down with a taser.

The resisting arrest is added to the indictment and the fact that he carried a knife on him without necessary permits.

During the examination, he sat looking down, and he raised his eyes only sometimes. When they asked him what does he do, he said that he wanted to defend with silence. 

According to a police report, the investigators are now convinced that Cmelik was a paid killer, especially because he did not say a word during the interrogation and processing, Maltese media reported.

His lawyer said that Cmelik denied all accusations, but did not submit his claim for bail.

WHO IS HUGO CHETCUTI?

Hugo Chetcuti is the owner of many buildings, hotels, restaurants, and nightclubs in the place St Julian's.

A well-known investigative journalist Dafna Karuana also wrote about him, who was killed at the end of last year in a bombing attack.

According to her, Hugo Chetcuti, a Paceville businessman, bought a new ship and made the whole world know about it, Karuana wrote on her blog a few years ago.

Chetcuti published a photo from the sale, surrounded by strippers from his nightclubs.

One of the strippers is Luciana Loredana Sean, a Romanian in the early twenties, who lives with a man from the underworld, Darren Grimm, with whom she has a child.

The journalist linked the underground and the police on Malta with the fact that the godfather of the child and narco boss a legal representative of the underground and a former minister of the military and police, Manuel Malia.
