Slavica became a widow with four children, her husband committed suicide yesterday over the debt of 185 euros: The electricity is back on, but the suffering doesn't end there (PHOTO)
Thanks to the unknown donor who paid 22.000 dinars (185 euros) to Electric distribution company - on behalf of Miroslav Stojanovic (44) from Jelasnica, who committed suicide when the electricity was cut off, his widow and orphans are no longer in dark. They have confirmed it to us from the company that the team was sent to the home of Stojanovic to turn the electricity back on as soon as the debt was settled.
However, it turned out that the debt grew for another 13.000 dinars (just over 100 euros), and Miroslav's widow has no means of paying for it because she barely paid the money to bury her husband who drank the poison Etiol and who died it most terrible pain, the pressure of poverty was too great on him.
Slavica, a refugee from Bosnia, and Miroslav, a refugee from Kosovo, met in the camp where all four of their children were born. They were hoping for better days when they received a house in Jelasnica two and a half years ago, but the poverty kept following them and in the end, it is what killed Miroslav.
- My husband was a poor soul, his father was hanged during the war by Albanians, he has found him on the tree, all rotten because the worms have already eaten him. His mother never recovered from the tragic loss. The loss of the husband and home was what killed her. She took her own life in 2004 by drowning herself in Nisava. Miroslav fought as much as he could, he didn't pick a job, recently he returned from Uzice where he picked raspberries. He was hoping for a profit but in the end, they were all wasted because hail destroyed most of it, so he returned home the same way he left. When they came to cut our electricity, he begged the people from the company not to leave us in the dark, he told them:
- Plums are coming, just hold on, I will make money to pay for the debt. His cry was in vain, he walked out of the house, he went down to the basement and he took his own life. His sister Zlatka, to whom he announced the suicide, listened to him while he was dying over the phone. She said that he vomited, he was choking and he said that he can no longer endure poverty and the hunger of children - said Slavica while choking on tears.
With no one to take care of them, the mother said that she thought about following her husband.
- These four children are the only thing that keeps me alive. Kristina is five years old, Veljko seven, Lazar ten, and Kristijan twelve, they are all small children. What will they do without me? They offered me at the Social Welfare center to place them with a foster family. I am not giving away my children. I have a debt at the shop 23.000 dinars (190 euros) for the bread I bought to feed them, they don't have shoes nor clothes and they should go to school, they don't have bathroom, they are ashamed of bringing their friends here, I don't have the money to buy the cheapest juice... And now, I don't have Miroslav as well - the desperate woman said.
Everybody who can help Slavica and her children can call the number 064 4118934 and a bank account was opened for them: 160-5410200069139-57 Banca Intesa, name Slavica Spasojevic.
