Djordje Jankovic from the village Banja near Arandjelovac, who caught the public eye when he was homeless and when a man from Sumadija took him in and gave him home, passed away yesterday morning at the age of 30.

It has been almost five years since Dejan Radic (43) took homeless Djordje from Smederevo fortress to his house in Banja. They both spoke about that for Telegraf.rs two months ago.

They lived in harmony until yesterday, the kind that you rarely see even among the family. They both lived in poverty, but they were not hopeless - Djordje, Dejan and his mother Milica and sister Danijela.

Dear friends, Djole is gone, he has gone to the angels. The pain remains, with me, my mother and my sister's pain for Djole. He will be buried on May 25th, at 13 PM, at the cemetery in the village Banja - Dejan wrote on his Facebook profile.

He met homeless Djordje by accident five years ago on Smederevo fortress, while he was trying to find some food in the dumpster. He gave him home. Dejan and his sister soon lost their job and their father died.

The family lived with 16.000 dinars, but they didn't have any unpaid bills.

Djordje dreamed of building his chicken coop and to create better-living conditions to the goats and sheep they tried to keep. He was a believer and he made a small area in the yard, like a church, where he prayed.

- I survived because of my faith, I know that I only have to endure today and it will be better tomorrow. Isn't that how Dejan came to my life - Djordje Jankovic said in his talk to Telegraf.

He was from Novi Pazar. His father died at the age of nine, his mother abandoned him, two brothers and his sister. Their grandmother raised him for some time. His childhood was marked by his cousin who used to tie him up to the tree naked. Fleeing the harassment, he took his sister by the hand and with his grandmother's blessing they headed to Belgrade.

He used to do physical work on construction sites to the limits, he worked two jobs. Sister got married and Djordje got sick. After the first epileptic seizure, he would be fired. He couldn't afford to pay for a single room without a job. He became homeless.

He lived on Kalemegdan for six months, a part of winter and spring. He used to collect and sell cans and scrap metal. He slept in catacombs, frozen and sick. He arrived to Smederevo searching for a job, where he dragged concrete in buckets to the third floor.

When he lost weight and after a few epileptic seizures, he remained on the street again. Then Dejan Radic from Banja near Aradjelovac came and offered him a home.

Djordje had epilepsy, a large hernia on his stomach, he suddenly lost weight, and the doctors suspected of cancer. His blood pressure would jump to 200 and it would suddenly drop. His body temperature rose to 40 degrees C, he was taken to hospital for treatment. He didn't make it.

Djordje told Telegraf that it is the hardest for him when he has epileptic seizures and Milica and Danijela are crying while calling the ambulance.

They are everything for me, I would give the last drop of blood for them - Djordje recently said, and after Dejan's post on Facebook, more and more people answer who loved him and who helped him and Radic. Djordje Jankovic had a talent to provoke the best in people.
