Former German soldier fell in love with Bosnia: He lived in America, he has been all across Europe, and he decided to settle down in Sarajevo (VIDEO)
Former German soldier Michael Brokers came to Bosnia for the first time in 2009 as a member of the EUFOR unit. He quickly fell in love with the country, it's nature and people, so he decided to move to Sarajevo when he retired.
- My first impression that people are friendly, open, and you can easily come in touch with them and talk about everything with a cup of coffee - Michael said, reports Deutsche Welle.
As he said, he has traveled all across Europe, he lived in America, but he said that it is the best in Bosnia.
- I've never met, in any of the other countries, a total picture like here that fits me, not even in Germany.
He has decided to give his max and that is why he is volunteering at the Day Center in Visoko, for the children with special needs. He is learning the alphabet with children, numbers, colors... He says that the volunteering in the center is emotionally fulfilling and that he is happy that he can help other people.
- The result at the end of the day is to go home filled up with positive emotions. I am learning form children and I am getting the motivation for life.
The colleagues have accepted him very well, as well as the children.
- He is really doing his job with a lot of love and he is giving more than expected. We can all learn a lot from him, and especially about nice manners - the principal of the Daily Center Meldina Ugarak said.
Michael likes to explore the country in his free time, and he often goes to the mountains or the seaside with his car or with a bicycle. He enjoys traditional Bosnian dishes, and he likes cevapi the most.
- I love this country, these people, the atmosphere. And I definitely love my city, Sarajevo.
