The Montenegrin government confirmed early this morning that an unknown attacker threw a hand grenade at the US embassy in Podgorica at midnight and then killed himself by activating another explosive device.
The scene of the attack was secured by the police, and the American embassy warned the USA citizens to avoid the area for "active security situation".
No one else was injured, and no great material damage was caused.
On this occasion, the State Department in Washington announced that the US Embassy "is currently conducting an internal check to confirm the safety of its staff", the AP reported.
The motive for the attack is not known for now.
