Measles spreading more and more and they already reached Montenegro: 14 months old girl got infected
The first case of measles was recorded in Montenegro, announced by the head of the Institute for Public health Institute, Boban Mugosa.
It was said from the clinical center of Montenegro (KCCG), that one child got sick with measles.
It is a 14-month-old girl who came to Montenegro with her family from Belgrade. She arrived in Montenegro seven days ago and she was not vaccinated.
- The sick girl was taken to the Children's hospital and she is stable - said Dr. Sonja Milasinovic at the emergency press conference.
She added that the girl has a rash, that she is vomiting and she has a fever. She was isolated and hospitalized.
- No matter that this was the first and individual case of measles, the level of caution in Children's hospital is on a high level, we have to prepare for the possible hypothetical epidemics - Milasinovic said.
It was announced that the authorities are monitoring the situation.
- That family has another baby and a three-year-old child who was vaccinated - Mugosa said.
He invited parents to vaccinate their children because that is the only adequate protection.
According to him, the Institute for Public Health took all necessary precautions and has raised the level of supervision over this illness and asked to dedicate a special attention to vaccination.
Mugosa said that the coverage of immunization for children born in 2015 exceeded 70 percent, but that there is a small response of young children, about 45 percent.
- We have enough vaccines and we are ready for it. I hope that we will succeed to isolate the problem at the level of a family, but we can't guarantee that - Mugosa said, mentioning that the incubation period is mostly from 15 to 20 days.
