Mysterious downhill on the Serbian mountain, where due to the proximity Djavolja Varos, the water is flowing uphill (VIDEO)

The uphill downslope on Radan mountain, like all similar phenomena and the places where water flows uphill and turned off cars are sliding uphill, are no miracles of nature, but an optical illusion, according to the physicists. But how is it possible for our eyes to deceive us so much, for our legs to step uphill, and actually go downhill?

The residents of Ivanja on Radan mountain and travelers have noticed this unusual occurrence a long time ago. It all looks like as if there a downhill slope in front of you which is going down to the foot of the hill.

However, if you turn off your car in the middle of the road, it won't continue going downhill, but it will go uphill. If you spill water on the same road, it won't go downhill, but it will flow uphill. If you look at the Ivanjski stream by the road, it will seem as if it was going uphill.

The locals and the media talked about the so-called. gravitational anomaly, "miracle on Radan Mountain" and that the secret is in a magnetic field located in the hill itself. The mystery is fueled by the fact that German airplanes fell down here during the World War II.

Branislav Aleksic, the research associate of the Institute of Physics in Belgrade, explains how physics see this anomaly.

- Physics say that everything is alright on Radan, that gravity is normal, that there are no "gravitational anomalies". No one ever discovered any disturbances in gravity. Those are optical illusions that happen on some hills and in forest areas where we don't have a clear horizon, a plane, or let's say some objects, buildings for example, which are perfectly vertical, or trees that are vertical.

- In these mountainous areas, trees are often sloped, and in combination with the hills gives a distorted image so your eyes can't determine if it's downhill or uphill. Namely, it looks like an uphill, and it is actually a downhill. My colleagues have proven that with several experiments in this location.

Does the body invest any effort when it starts going "uphill"?

- No, if you would close your eyes, you would think that you would walk downhill. The feeling is completely the same. There are few ways to reach those conclusions. The height of the sides could be measured by the geometers using the level (geodetic instruments). GPS devices can also determine the height of the terrain.

- The gravitational acceleration is measured using the mathematical pendulum. All these experiments were done at Radan and they all showed that everything is fine with gravity, that it is a downhill and that there is a discussion that it is a "magnetic hill" - Branislav Aleksic said.

There are several places like this in Serbia. Although it is an optical illusion, those who experienced this "miracle on Radan mountain" say that this illusion is very exciting.

Because of its seeming irregularity and incomprehensibility, it became a sort of a tourist attraction to the amateur eye. However, there are still those who believe that the devils from the Djavolja Varos (Devils' town) intertwined their fingers into that small part of the road on Radan mountain.
