Protesters gathered in front of the parliament building in Skopje and protested peacefully, although they set the EU flag on fire, AP reported.

Albanians, who make up one-fourth of the population in Macedonia, will have the right under the law to use Albanian, along with the Macedonian language, in all state institutions.

Macedonian members of the parliament adopted the law this month while the main opposition party boycotted the vote.

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov vetoed the law last week, saying it was unnecessary and unconstitutional.

Since Ivanov did not sign the law, MPs will have to open a new discussion and vote again.
