The luxurious Polar Discovery Passenger Vessel is being built at Pula shipyard Uljanik. Uljanik signed an agreement for this technically challenging project with one of Scenic group companies owned by Glen Moroni, writes Business.hr.

It is a superluxurious ship "Scenic Eclipse" which will be able to take 409 people with the crew, and it is intended to sail at all seas, including the polar and tropical areas, considering that it is specially equipped for that.

- It is particularly "reinforced" to adapt to the sailing in difficult weather conditions in frozen seas and it meets high ecological standards. It has a mini-submarine in its offer and two helicopters for exploring the difficult to reach areas - they said from Pula Uljanik.

That is the first passenger ship in the world of that type and the first ship of that kind being made in the shipyard Uljanik in its long history.

- The scenic group signed a contract for the construction of a polar exploratory cruiser with Uljanik shipyard. Although it is the first boat of such characteristics that will be built in Uljanik, Scenic decided to accept the challenge and begin cooperation with the Pula shipyard. Such a decision was made after careful consideration of the engineering potential of this shipyard - said the owner of the Scenic Group, Uljanik reports.

Moroni also points out that Uljanik has "built a respectable number of special purpose vessels for many years, has a long tradition and is known for its expertise and quality of production".

A CHALLENGE FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS

- This is the first ship in Scenic's fleet designed for ocean navigation and the first cruiser that will be built in Uljanik. We believe that these facts were a challenge for all participants in this project. Good cooperation and synergy between the teams of Uljanik and Scenic Group will put this beautiful polar exploratory cruiser into operation in 2018. The contract on the construction of another ship of the same type is in preparation - the owner of the Scenic group said.

The ship is in a construction phase, the hull is being made, and there are several hundreds of workers on it. When completed, it will be 165.70 meters long, 21.50 meters wide, and it will be capable of reaching 17 knots. The number of passengers is limited to 237, and 172 crew members are predicted. 

SIX STARS

This ship, with six stars, is intended for the highest class of passengers who will enjoy 114 luxuriously equipped cabins, and there are 138 cabins for the crew.

- In order to adapt to even the most demanding weather conditions, the ship has a double frame for polar seas and can sail the seas in which there is a broken ice whose thickness does not exceed 80 centimeters, provided that the ice covers up to a maximum of 60 percent of the sea surface - announced from Uljanik and added that the ship will be adjusted for navigation within the fragile ecosystem of the Arctic and Antarctic.
