A few white truffles, weighing around 850 grams, were sold at a traditional auction in the city of Albi in Italian Piedmont for a staggering 75,000 euros. Truffles were bought by a Hong Kong entrepreneur via satellite. However, there are truffles in Serbia.

Truffles are highly sought after delicacies for Christmas due to specific taste and flavor, and the price of one kilogram is around 6.000 euros.

Really big samples of black truffles are located on higher terrains. Most of them in Serbia are located on Fruska Gora. It grows in symbiosis with Turkey oak or Tilia tree.

Truffles grow in symbiosis with higher plants (mostly trees) and they like soil with an acidity of 6.5 to 8 on the PH scale. The ideal conditions for the growth of truffles are in the soil whose PH level is just over 7, the Agricultural Advisor writes.

White truffles (T. Magnatum) can be found exclusively in the immediate vicinity of a river with a high level of groundwater. There they grow in symbiosis with oak and potted poplar. Black truffles can also be found in the same places, but not the ones of the greatest and best quality.
