Confession of a convict from the worst prison in Balkans: In it is a Muslim who took down the cross and a murderer who killed because of a slap (VIDEO)

The prison in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Correctional institution Zenica is one of the most notorious prisons in the region. It's building is surrounded by a tall wall and with a barbed wire, and numerous murders, war criminals, kidnappers, drug lords, are serving their sentence here. The cameras of the crime magazine "Cases X" for Hayat TV Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded a story behind bars of Zenica prison. 731 convicts, 731 destinies, 731 life stories.

It is not easy to work in this prison. The officers are here, as well as and guards, doctors teachers, friends, as a shoulder to cry on.

It is almost impossible to escape from here, and the last escape was recorded 15 years ago. The prisoners have everything inside the walls, except freedom.

They can use the pavilion, workshops, cinema, sports hall, classrooms, restaurants and religious rooms. 

What is happening in this closed prison is best known by those who spend their days in there.

Starting from a prison policeman to the head of the shift of department, criminologist, expert advisor for providing legal assistance to convicts, expert advisors for criminal affairs, prison police warden and ultimately the director. After assuming the duties of the director, Kahric emphasized to all employees that he wants order, work, and discipline. 

- Those who have worked fairly and honestly, they will be happy with my work. Those who worked outside the rules will be very upset in this period - said the new director of the Correctional institution Zenica.

The story on Hidajet Hankic 

He was first caught in the ways of crime in 1996. He started robbing stores, with thieveries, he had a murder attempt and he committed double murder. As a minor, he was placed in the home for children without parents in Hum, from where he was released after a year and a half.

- I got one year for the attempt of murder and for thieveries as an underage man. Now when I committed my first murder, I did two years in prison for underage juveniles - he said.

Hidajet was a free man for just one year, after which he committed another murder and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

- After eight years - they charged me with murder. The sentenced me to 15 years. I did 12.5, I have less than 3 years to go - he said.

He said that he spent his time in all kinds of prison pavillions. He was in solitude rooms, he even did drugs. He said that he never fought and he had no incidents.

He committed his first murder in 2002. A group of people cut his way and a man was among them who he killed. He said that he committed murder because that man slapped him, which is the greatest humiliation a man can experience. He committed the murder a few days later and he planned it carefully. He arrived in front of the house of a man who slapped him and murdered him with an ax. They immediately arrested him and handed him to the prosecutor.

The case of Mirza Hatic

Mirza Hatic is also speaking for the "Case X" who became known to the public when he openly bragged about taking down the cross on Zlatiste above Sarajevo. The symbol of the cross was placed in the memory of 6.500 murdered Serbs in the war in Sarajevo.

The video which was published on Youtube clearly shows Hatic who explained his plan in detail and the events that lead to it. He explained even the way how he took down the cross in Sarajevo with his 4 friends, using the moment when the police didn't secure this symbol which reminds of Serbian victims. 

- That is my religion. I believe in dear Allah, I believe in God. My faith is Islam, and that shouldn't be placed there - pointing at the place where the cross was standing and the mosque located nearby.

He was arrested in the action of the Federal Police Administration in 2015. Hatic was previously known to the Bosnian police and was detained for various crimes including several shootings, and in 2008 he was shot by a certain Adin Bajraktarević and on that occasion, he received serious bodily injuries. Hatic is serving a sentence of 4.5 years for extortion.

- That act of mine, of taking down the cross, it brought me nothing but problems. It gave me nothing well about my life. That gave me some spiritual food and I would do it again with no problem. But now I am in prison. I am serving my sentence fairly - he said.

He stresses that the situation in prison is a bit better since the new administration arrived.

- The food is better, people are getting free weekends, they are generally happier - he said.
