Lake Bilec is located on the river Trebisnjica in the Republika Srpska. Everything started in 1968 - with the construction of hydroelectric power plants on Trebisnjica, houses and estates were flooded. The village was then completely evacuated so the lake could be placed there.
While the water rose, the houses and properties were flooded from the villages Panik, Orah, Cepelica, Zadublje, and Miruse.
Together with the villages, the water flooded the monuments of the past: cemeteries, roads, and even beautiful churches. Among them is monastery Kosijerevo, as well as many cultural-historical monuments.
They are now under water and they wait for dry days to appear in all of their glory.
However, due to a long dry period, the water level of the lake fell drastically. When that happened, the cross from the church started appearing, graves, the entire houses of the village...
An entire village hides at the bottom of this lake and it hides the spirit of the past, and an incredible amount of amazing stories could be told how the lake became to be by building the dam Grancarevo on the river Trebisjica close to the city. The dam is 123 meters high, 439 meters wide at the top.
