NEW, BRUTAL TRAFFIC PENALTIES: Seat belt - 10.000, alcohol - prison, new punishment for violent driving

Reduced penalties for lower speeds, driving in stop lane, expired test driver's license, increased limit for alcohol in blood, some of the novelties in the Law on Traffic safety which will be adopted on Thursday by Serbian Government.

The drivers will be able to breathe easily when it comes to smaller offenses where the fines were cut in half, while the old convenience was kept - those who pay for the offense they committed in the first 8 days will pay only half of the amount. 

However, according to the new law, only 0.2 % of alcohol will be allowed in the blood, and those who exceed 2 % will be charged for violent driving, and the fine can be up to 120.000 dinars (1.000 euros) and 9 months of a ban on driving.

Young drivers will have to drive for 2 years with test driver's license.

Other news: 

* The homologated seat for a child is necessary until the child grows to 135 cm, and safety seat can be used for children older than 4 years.

* Overtaking of bicycles, machinery, tractors and similar over a full line is allowed.

* The penalty for driving in stop lane was reduced from 100,000 - 120,000 dinars (around 1.000 euros) and 8 months ban and 14 points to 20,000 - 40,000 dinars, 3 months ban and 6 points.

* More responsibility is prescribed for the enterprises responsible for road construction and maintenance.

* The value of small damage whose repair does not exceed 200.000 dinars (1676 euros) is precisely defined.

Offenses: 

* Speeding in the zone 30km/h with more than 20 or 30 km/h - 10.000 dinars ( 84 euros).

* Expired driver's license more than 6 months 10.000 dinars.

* Dirty license plated 10.000 dinars.

* Driving of a vehicle which registration sticker expired more than 30 days ago - 10.000 dinars

* Seatbelt - 10.000

* Speeding in the residential area with more than 20 to 30 km/h 10.000 dinars

* Driving at night with position lights 10.000 dinars

* Driving without a helmet 10.000 dinars

Blood alcohol concentration: 

Allowed limit is lowered to 0.2%.

* 0.21 - 0.5 - 10.000 dinars

* 0.51 - 0.8 - 10.000 to 20.000, at least three months ban and 5-7 penalty points

* 0.81 - 1.2 - 20.000 - 40.000 or 30 days in prison, at least 4 months of ban and 7-9 penalty points

* 1.21 - 1.6 - 100.000 - 120.000 or at least 15 days in prison, at least 8 months of ban and 8-10 points

* 1.61-2.0 - 100.000 - 120.000 or at least 15 days in prison, at least 8 months of ban and 13 - 15 points

* Over 2.0 - 30 to 60 days in prison, at least 9 months of the ban and 14 - 16 points.

What does violent driving mean?

* Overtaking of a group of vehicles over the full line

* Two or three missed Traffic lights which forbid driving in less than 10 minutes

* Speeding with more than 90 km/h and more than 100 km/h outside residential areas

* Driving with 2 % blood alcohol

Punishment: Mandatory prison 30-60 days and 14-16 pints, and at least 90 months of ban

Test driver's license and young drivers:

* They will have test driver's license for at least 2 years or until they turned 21 for those who passed the exam before the age of 19

* Younger than 18 will have to drive accompanied by the adult who has a drivers license for at least 5 years

* They can drive up to 110 km/h on the highway, 90 km/h on the motorway, or 90 % of the allowed speed on other roads

* They are not allowed to drive vehicles that have more than 80 kW or 109 HP, the fine is 20.000-40.000 dinars or 30 days in prison.

* They are not allowed to drive between 23h till 6 am, and the fine is 10.000-20.000 dinars.

* They can't drive more than 3 people, the fine is 3.000 dinars.

* They can't use telephone or consume alcohol
