BREAST CANCER WON'T BE SURGICALLY REMOVED ANYMORE? A revolutionary vaccine and a pill will kill the tumor cells
100 women registered in the Institute of Oncology in Clinical hospital Center Bezanijska Kosa will get the chance for the new way of treatment of breast cancer, which implies avoiding the surgery.
The new therapy involves the use of the tablet, and then it is assessed with analysis if the patient can take the vaccine that kills the tumor cells to avoid surgery.
According to Blic, a meeting of experts was held yesterday, together with the leaders of Department of surgery on Oncology in Bezanijska Kosa and Oncology Daily Clinic, so the recruitment of patients are expected in the next 10 days after official agreements with ethical commissions and agency for medications.
Dr Stefan Stefanovic, president of the IMDI International Institute for Medical Diplomacy and the coordinator of the German-Serbian breast cancer consortium, who is part of the team, clarifies that in the second phase, the patients will receive either new antibodies or vaccines from designed T cells (a subtype of white blood cells that is able to recognize tumor cells and kill them).
The therapy will be in Serbia and measurement in Germany. After the first phase of treatment in two clinics in Belgrade, the vaccination will be performed later in Nis, said Stefan Stefanovic.
Serbia is the second in Europe for breast cancer mortality. According to the Institute of Public Health, breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor among patients in our country, of whom 4,600 women die annually.
