- If it was a girl, I don't know what would I do. Luckily, it was a son - said Amela from Bijelo Polje

Many pregnant women in Montenegro who have girls decide to have an abortion because the environment expects them to have a son, according to the local media, and because of that, they rush to Serbian clinics who use this opportunity to make money.

RTCG writes, Amela (43) is one of the women from the north of Montenegro, from Bijelo Polje, who has three children, and in the first weeks of her pregnancy, she took a risky genetic test in the private clinic in Belgrade to determine the sex of the child.

- If it was a girl, I don't know what would I do. Luckily, it was a son. I wanted a son so I could please my husband... I know women who did multiple abortions, after doing the test and when they discovered they had a girl - she said.

Although genetic testing for that purpose is forbidden in Serbia and in Montenegro, it is not a secret that women do a painful and expensive test of chorionic bumps.

The price of this is around 350 euros, and it enables the mother to find out the sex before the deadline for abortion (tenth week of pregnancy).

This test is recommended only in the cases if there are serious suspicions for genetic disorders.

Also, there are other alternatives, like the expensive Nifty test, which can find the sex of the child through the blood of the mother. However, the results of this test are accurate only in the 12th week of pregnancy, after the deadline for legal abortion, and Montenegrin clinics are up, ready to perform an illegal termination of pregnancy.
