Confession of a Serb who works in Croatia, and the colleagues don't know where he is from: You can often hear "bombs will fall on Belgrade"

  • 0

Regardless of the years of war, exodus, and geo-political-economic quarrels between Serbia-Croatia which are long behind us, national intolerance between two very similar people is still not losing its strength.

This Croat is running away from Croatia: I don’t want to live with Ustashas and criminals who dream about new Jasenovac!

The last case like this happened in Croatian construction company, where Serb works and his colleagues don't know where he comes from.

This is his entire letter:

"The people I work with can often show their level of tolerance and education by commenting on Serbs.

For this or that reason, whenever the Serbs are the subject of the topic; there are always comments like: motherf*ckers, the bomb will fall on Belgrade...

I even understand some people, they have someone they lost in war or they were exiled for this or that.

The twist is: I am a Serb, they just don't know that. I can also say that the comments like that don't bother me, some of them are even funny. I know from the start that I won't be working with some intellectuals, considering that it is just a physical work, and I am getting a minimum wage.

My defensive mechanism is passive-aggressive singing "From Vardar to Triglav". No one has guessed it yet :D

In any case, everything would be ok until the boss said in the private conversation that it would be best if I stayed away from the other boss because "he is Serb". And now I fear that they will add 2 and 2 and realize that Karadjordjevic is not a Croatian last name.

I am not sure if I explained the situation very well, imagine if you told your work colleague (with whom you have very good relations) something like "f*ck them, them Serbs", and so on, and then you find out that he is a Serb after six months. I would fall in the ground out of shame.

And what if some Sherlock Holmes appears and reads the list of names, what can I say? How can I behave? Sincerely, I am more ashamed of the people, I am not bothered by the remarks they make".
