Despite the appeal of a doctor about the mandatory immunization of children, as well as the decision of many kindergartens to ask for the certificate of the received vaccination, many parents still do not want to vaccinate their child. Because of this, Maja Milodanovic, a single mother from Subotica, could find herself behind bars side by side with the largest offenders because refused to vaccinate her three-year-old son, and for that reason, she received a sentence of 20 days in prison.

Prior to the imprisonment, Maja Milodanovic had to pay 20,000 dinars (around 170 euro) according to the decision of the Magistrate Court because she did not vaccinate the child. According to her, police came three times to arrest her, but she managed to make an agreement with the court to pay the fine in several installments - Novosti reports.

- Believe me, if I had anyone to leave him, I would go to prison. I begged the court to allow me to pay the fine - said Maja, the student without regular income.

- Before that, I did not receive any warning, just a court summons, a sentence, and then it was changed to prison. That worked out somehow, nothing is happening at the moment, the question is what will happen when we go to the physical examination again, I don't know if they will sue me again.

- The boy got pentaxim vaccine and his immune system broke down, he was constantly sick so I decided to sign that I refuse the vaccine. I still stand by my decision - this mother is determined.

- If those were the old vaccines, I would perhaps allow it, but I really don't want this. Vaccination should be the choice of the parents, to decide on their own what they want for their child, and not to punish us like this.

This is not a lonely case. Although vaccination in our country is compulsory, doctors urge that children should receive all that is prescribed and point to the consequences, which can be fatal, the views of the parents are divided.

According to the new Law on the Protection of Population from Infectious Diseases, if mandatory immunization is refused, fines range from 30,000 to 150,000 dinars. Prevention of compulsory immunization is considered a violation, and doctors are obliged to notify the sanitary inspection if the parents refuse to vaccinate the child.
