Fighter of Islamic State tried to enter Bosnia: It is believed that he planned a terrorist attack

Security Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Dragan Mektic announced today that security services averted one person from the border which is close to the structures of so called Islamic State and presents the threat from the aspect of terrorism.

- We came to the information that this person is close to ISIS structures. The person was averted from Bosnia and Herzegovina early this morning. He is prone to terrorism, we don't believe in his good intentions, and we believe that he came here to use his stay in some terrorist activity. He won't be able to enter BiH in the future, but we need such actions on a daily basis to prevent similar situations - Mektic noted.

He said that terrorism doesn't stand still, but it deepens the way of their operations and changes the way it works.

- Terrorism is becoming greater and greater danger all over the world, and it is not harmless even with us considering our recidivism from the past - said Mektic at a press conference.

He emphasized that there is a discussion in Bosnia and Herzegovina about terrorism, noting that they have taken many actions in the fight against terrorism.

- Lately, we are focusing more on prevention. I think we have achieved satisfactory results. No country can eliminate this threat, nor can Bosnia and Herzegovina. Terrorists have switched to a new way of committing terrorist acts. The essence of the fight against terrorism is to get information before it comes to terrorism - Mektic noted.

He added that there is a problem of extremism in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that they have to work on another process, and this is about de-radicalization.

- First of all, it is necessary to explain the harmfulness of radicalism to young people. The BiH Ministry of Security was the leader in terms of this prevention. We have run a project, together with Slovenians, worth 18 million KM. That money will be used to prevent radicalism. In this way, we will change the awareness of the harmfulness of radicalism and, ultimately, terrorism - said Mektic.

He said that citizens must change their awareness since there are new ways to commit terrorism.

- It is the duty of officials to take care of security, but the most important is the awareness of citizens. We do as much as we can and the state will have to strengthen its financial areas regarding this problem, in order to possibly prevent such situations. We will all have to change the security awareness to keep the entire society at the safe distance from terrorism - said Mektic.

He announced a serious project for September 7th and 8th, where they will be focusing the entire amount of EU funds in the fight against terrorism.
