The uncrowned king of prostitution on the Balkans Dilaver Bojku Leku has been killed on the beach Aqua Blue in Struga, yesterday around 17h, confirmed Macedonian police.
It wasn't announced who shot this man.
As Telegraf finds out, he was murdered on an overcrowded beach Aqua Blue, which he held under concession. It is in front of his tavern and a hotel with the same name close to the bus station in Struga.
Uncrowned King of prostitution on Balkans is one of the main bosses of Albanian mafia, which controlled the network of trade of slave trafficking in Macedonia. Dilaver Bojku, known as Leku, was first arrested at the beginning of February 2003 in his hotel "Bern" near Struga, under the suspicion that he forced women into prostitution.
The police have filed 17 criminal charges for prostitution against him since 1979 till 2001, but he was elusive till 2003.
Bojku started his career as a pimp. He was arrested few times but never sentenced till 2003. In time, he became a "boss over bosses" especially in the western part of Macedonia.
Dilaver Bojku controlled two illegal routes of transport of girls and women. One of them went through Bulgaria and the other one from Albania. Both channels ended up in his birth place Velesta near Struga, which was named the place with most prostitutes in Macedonia. There were around 200 to 250 women ready for sale there.
Leku kept around 20 who were the most beautiful, and he offered them to the clients in his bar. After few months, he would sell them on Kosovo, where the business is even more profitable.
Experts have discussed the number one issue in the Balkans in 2002. and that was human trafficking, they confirmed that the brain of this type of organized crime, not only in the region but also in Europe, was then Dilaver Bojku.
He became known in the mid-nineties when he was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison for prostitution and celebrated with the statement:
- Prostitution is in the nature of the women I work with, and I'm just helping them and trying to guide them to find rescue.
Bojku was elusive to the police for a long time because he always moved before every action thanks to the information leaked from the police. Thanks to the connections, in the middle of 2003, Bojku escaped the guards who transferred him from the Ohrid prison from Struga, where he served 6 months in prison.
- Bojku escaped around 12 am, in the moments when prison guards, two Albanians and one Macedonian, were putting him in the police van. Two guards were on around him, and the third behind him, while the commander of surveillance services was few meters away from him. When they arrived at the police van, Bojku, who didn't have cuffs on his hands, pushed himself away from the guards and he ran to the nearby streets. The guards ran after him but he was quicker - explains the Director of the Sanctions Directorate Ljupco Sapcevski.
Bojku wasn't free for long. At the beginning of July, Montenegro police arrested him in Ulcinj, just a few hours after the USA offered a 10.000 reward to whoever gives information which will lead to the arrest of this Balkan pimp.
He was returned to Macedonia, where he was sentenced to 3.8 years in prison in December 2003 for prostitution.
When he got out of the prison, as it is said, he joined the legal business in tourism and hospitality. The investigation into his murder will say how legal that business really was.
