SNAKE SUMMER IS AHEAD OF US: Snake whisperer from Krivolak has terrifying warning for the Balkans (PHOTO)
A man, perhaps the only one in the world, who knows how to speak with snakes, Skender Jusufov (44), called Kole the snake from the village Krivolak near Negotin in Macedonia, warns us that we will have a snake summer.
He is known in region for talking to snakes on his on language Basma, and then catches them with bare hands and releases them to nature.
Kole snake said for Skopje weekly and Fokus portal that the period of real invasion of snakes is coming and he said that he can't lift his head from the amount of work he has. People are calling him from all sides because of the snakes that entered their yards, houses, barns, weekend houses, cars, and to save them from unwanted guests.
- Since it got warmer, my phone has been ringing without stop. Unlike last year, there are three times more calls this year. Frightened people are calling for help. I caught over dozen of Aesculapius' snakes, which are not toxic, but also dozens of adders, dangerous and poisonous snakes. There are adders in black color, their poison is extremely strong, especially in this time of year, and they appear in yards and homes - said Skender Jusufov.
He gets most calls from the owner of weekend houses, but people are also calling him who have snakes in their homes, yards, barns and cars. Even though he is employed and has his working obligations Kole snake tries not to refuse anyone and to help everyone.
He advises lovers of nature, mountaineers, bikers, tourists and locals in urban environments to be careful, to check their houses before they are comfortable, to take care where they step in nature, not to leave bags and rucksacks because snakes can crawl in them, and not to panic of it comes under the windshield during driving.
- I know that fear and panic are great when meeting with these reptiles, but you should know that snakes are also afraid of people. People think that if they are in nature or a weekend house, and if they bring a dog, he will smell the snake. That is not true but its often that the dogs are bitten by snakes. Out of animals, only cats can feel snake from a far - said Kole the Snake.
He doesn't kill snakes, he lures them with talk on the language known to only him, "Basmma". As soon as they hear it snakes come out and go to him. He grabs them gently, takes them to the nature and releases them.
He has been doing this for almost quarter of century and he was never bitten by snake. They are great friends to him. And he is to them. He never carries an antidote because he is a friend of snakes, and they feel it. He has his own language to communicate with them and he knows exactly when they are scared, when they will attack and when they try to run away.
He started catching them 25 years ago, and he learned about this "craft" from sheep heard Kosta from Radivis.
- He loved me very much and he said that one day he will give his secret "Basma". He warned me never to abuse this skill and not to harm anyone. It took me a year to muster courage until i tried talking to snakes. Everything was easy after that. People started calling me when they found a snake in a house, a car, yard... and i would solve the problem in half an hour - said Kole.
He has three children, daughter of 12 and sons of 10 and 6 years old, who followed his footsteps. He doesn't want to bring the daughter in his world of catching snakes, but sons, even though they are little, they have no fear of them. And they started catching them themselves and to play with them as if they are rubber toys.
- They told me from the police i can't teach them because they are under age, but when they turn 18 years old, i will pass all of my knowledge and my secrets, i will teach them snake language Basma, said Kole the Snake.
