Horror on excursion: Student from Banja Luka jumped from a dock and broke his spine
Vanja Peakovic, eighteen year old from Kotor Varos broke fourth vertebra by jumping from the pier in the water half a meter deep in the summer resort Lido di Jesolo in Italy, where he is still on treatment. This student of a third grade of Banja Luka Agriculture School was hurt on the first day of excursion, held from 27th May to 2 June.

As they said for "Nezavisne", Pejakovic planed to enroll the College of Internal Affairs, and he is currently on life support devices, in coma, and doctors are waking him up occasionally.
This veterinary technician jumped from one meter into water 50 centimeters deep.
- At a place where he jumped there is a board clearly warning about jumping into the water - said in the school report.
The report further states that upon arriving to the beach, around 20 students were with 3 professors who warned them not to move away, but few of them went on their own and jumped into water.
- After the jump, and when they pulled him to shore, he was aware of everything. He apologized for what he did and said, "This will not be good for me, this is not TV to have a happy ending" - said Edi Hanes, principal of Agricultural school.
Doctor who was accompanying the students, immobilized Vanja's neck and head with towels, and then the ambulance arrived.
- Ambulance gave him first aid and he was transported to the emergency room. They examined him and a helicopter came for him - said Hanes.
He was transported from the local hospital to the Clinic "Mestre" in Venice where he underwent magnetic resonance imaging and then surgery. It was determined that his fourth vertebra is crushed and that he severed spinal cord.
- He is on life support, but, when he is in coma, he hears everything - said Hanes.
Regardless of the accident, the excursion was not interrupted, but the parents of the young man were informed and they immediately came to Italy.
The Tourist Agency "Travel Star", which was organized excursion claim to have immediately taken measures on activation of travel health insurance. They add that they put parents in a hotel near the hospital, and provided them with the Italian telephone, and an interpreter.
- All costs of transport by helicopter, surgery and hospital stay so far were covered by the insurance policy which the agency settled -report from the agency "Star Travel".
The Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska say that they have addressed all relevant institutions to help this student and his family during their stay in Italy.
With the same objective, and Agricultural school Banja Luka launched a humanitarian action.
