Great news for Serbia: At the beginning of the year 1,100 more births than last year!
Minister without portfolio in charge of demographics and population policy Slavica Djukic Dejanovic said that in the first two months of this year, 1.100 babies were born, more than in the same period last year, and that there is a great interest for the population incentives of municipalities.
- However, one should be careful with this data because the trend can be measured at least at six months - explained Dejanovic for RTS.
She said that there was contribution that media talked about the subject more, but also the measures local government took upon themselves to act stimulatory on people.
Ministry led by Slavica Djukic Dejanovic has announced a public call for pilot projects which lasts till 29 May this year, and all the municipalities have the right to participate who fulfill these two conditions - to already have allocated means in their budget to support the families or to encourage births and to have a body responsible for issues of demography.
It was planned to start this projects in at least one municipality in the region of Vojvodina, Belgrade, Central and Western Serbia, southeast Serbia, and 130 million dinars will be allocated.
There are already interested, and so far around 10 municipalities applied.
Dejanovic said that if there is a municipality from each region, there will be 32 million dinars for every municipality, but she expects for the money to be divided between the municipalities.
