Exactly 18 years ago today, 108 bravest Serbs were killed defending their country at Kosare.

- A detail is constantly in my head. Somewhere above Malisevo we met a military unit, they stopped to regroup. One soldier, blond hair, dirty, in military colors, he sits on the weapons they dragged behind them and puts a tape recorder next to him. He puts a tape with trumpeters while planes are howling above, he turns to me, raises three fingers and said: "All of this is for Serbia". Everybody is thinking like that, no one wondered why are they there, they knew, they defended Serbia - said Milovan Drecun, a member of the parliament, and the only journalist who reported about inhuman fight of Serbian military before far more powerful enemy on Kosare.

On Great Friday, 9 April 1999, early in the morning, around 1.500 members of Kosovo Liberation Army, with the support of Albanian artillery and NATO aviation, attacked the watchtower region front of several kilometers width.

In that moment 110 young beardless men defended Kosare, from 19-20 years old, on regular military service, and one of them just celebrated his adulthood.

The battle lasted for 67 days without a stop, during which Serbian army was pounded from all sides, even though the KLA eventually took over the watchtower, they didn't get deeper into Kosovo and Metohija, which was the primary goal of attack.

- It was extremely dramatic, fights were heavy and fierce, attacks brutal and bloody. The forest was so dense you could not sport the enemy unless he gets within 10 meters. NATO was constantly bombing, artillery was striking all day and night, terrorists were threatening - remembers Drecun for Srpski Telegraf.

As many experts say, the greatest problems is that Watchtower is in that position, it is indefensible.
