Forbidden love between Muslim and Serb: Mustafa and Sofija have been married for 60 years and they defy the hatred on Balkans (VIDEO)
Sofija came to Tuzla first time when she was a girl in 1953 from Vojvodina to visit her friends. That was her first independent travel, without her family. With the stroke of luck, she remained in this city and got a job, and she met her future husband there, who came from Bijeljina to Tuzla for work.
The love between Mustafa and Sofija was forbidden at start. Her parents were also against their love. Mustafa's parents were also against it.
However, when both families saw how strong their love is, even Sofija's father said that he is not returning to Vojvodina without his Muja.
They are proud parents of Damir and Dajana and they have 60 years of marriage behind them, they claim that love is what keeps them together even today.
- We were always together, he never went to a party without me. We bought our first car in 1964, we traveled Yugoslavia, there is no place we haven't visited. But we were always together - said Sofija for Radio Free Europe.
Life was never easy, but Mustafa and Sofija are sure that it was much simpler than it is today.
