Martina is Balkan sex bomb and a scientist: She works as engineer and a photo mode, she invented smart shoes, and her final destination is NASA (PHOTO)
Martina Dimoska looks like a bomb, and she is interested in rockets. When she is walking down the street, she is turning everybody's heads, and no one can imagine that behind the exterior of this sex bomb, there is one of the best students of the final year of Engineering Materials and Nanotechnology at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Skopje, she is a successful innovator, winner of significant prizes in the field of science and the youngest mentor in the American space agency NASA.
Public found out about Martina Dimoska, also known as Marta Devilish, coming from Kicevo in the west Macedonia, for the first time two years ago with attractive photos as an alternative photo-model, and she became famous last year, when she invented last year, with the team of students, young scientists, "smart shoes" which can be used to recharge your phone.
- It is actually a footpad for shoes which generate electric energy which can be stored and kept in batteries. While creating "smart shoes" we used special piezoelectric material which produces energy with every pressure on it. That means that energy created can be stored in batteries and it can be used to charge different devices, explains Martina Dimoska.
While building "smart shoes" she had help from students from different faculties - Nikolco Gosev, who did web-site for the patent, Aleksandar Lazovski was in charge of marketing and management, and Loreta Todorovska for cost planning.
"Smart shoes" were first tried out by marathoner Kokan Ajanovski, who managed to charge his tabled while running on a treadmill. During its fabrications, young innovators used comfortable orthopedic shaped materials that prevent sweating, and they are water and fire resistant.
- One footpad can charge phone battery from 4 to 6 hours, depending on physical activity, and with both footpads one can charge two devices. Pads can be used in all kinds of shoes, even with heels. However, one thing is even more important. Somewhere in the world there are still children that are walking to school and have no power in their homes. Perhaps these footpads will help them to create enough energy to power at least one light bulb to write their homework, said Dimoska.
Team of young innovators thought commercially about this, but they still don't know what to do with them, because they are all over the world.
- There have been a lot of offers from big companies to start producing them, but there is a dilemma - should we sell the innovation, or to continue to develop it, so it is everything in kind of a standstill, said this young scientist.
This is not the first innovation for Dimoska. She had plenty of them in the field of work and research.
- My last innovation was in America with their team where we patented a device used for scaling of small elements made in the local factory. That device is also used for storing and easier examination, because the local employees have great problem with storing elements and their turning to examine them from all sides. With this device they can examine it from all sides. It is very light, it has no mechanics, besides one screw fastens the three plate mechanism. We did that at the university in Kent, Ohio, sad Dimoska.
She describes herself as curious, as a man who likes to research, to creates innovations, she is volunteering in society, helping on humane, social or or science way.
- I was interested in science, space and nanotechnology since i was a little girl, because my father is a "gamer" and a futurist. I started playing some strategic games on a computer since i was six or we watched some futuristic and science-fiction movies. Since my father is interested for technology and innovations, i got his genes, and i started researching my own, said Dimoska.
As little, she played with boys, cars, she had a lot of "Barbie" dolls which remain unpacked to this day.
- My childhood was challenging because i was well raised since i was little, i grew up in a family with work ethics, good habits and responsibility. I helped my parents around the house all the time, and i remember when i was little, third or fourth grade, i wanted to pay bills in a bank to take more responsibility on myself and to help parents, said Dimoska.
She completed high school in Kicevo. Now she is the fourth year of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Skopje, and she has two more significant degrees. One from mechanics and one from Robotics and Embedded System Academy "Newman's business-accelerator", and a degree of Aeronautical Engineering on the university "Kent State" in Ohio, USA. She is the youngest mentor of NASA, ans she had the opportunity to stand next to the real rocket "Skylab 2 Apollo command module" used by Nil Armstrong when he landed on the Moon in 1973.
She said that she finds herself in aeronautics, space technology and engineering, and this year, she will go to summer school CERN in Geneva.
- Practice in CERN will enable to me improve in System Engineering in parallel with Material Engineering and Nanotechnology, which is actually my line of work. To be involved in the greatest world experiment and to learn from proven experts is something i am greatly expecting, said Martina, who sees her future in some company in Macedonia.
Under the name of Marta Devilish, she became famous as an alternative photo model. She started doing that two years ago, passively.
- Because i love photography, and because i love taking pictures myself, there were no girls ready to be photographed in Cinema Club in Kicevo, which i am a member of. They are spoiled and they were afraid how will it taken in a small environment. I stood next to the camera, but under condition to show my alternative style. And so it began, and i chose my won artistic name - Marta Devilish. I shortened my name Martina into Marta, because everybody call me that, and "last name" Devilish comes from Manchester United club because i was passionate fan in the fourth grade, Manchester United fans are known as "red devils", and that is why they called me "devilish" when i was little, so i became Marta Devilish, said Martina.
Her photos appeared on the covers of many respectable magazines, and next to the artistic expressionism through photography, she creates art with makeup, hairdo and interesting concepts. She is fascinated with pinup girls and with their curves, but also with a glamour of Hollywood divas from the last century. She is in love with Victorian era, and her style depends from the current mood. Posing in front of the camera is just a hobby, and her priority are studies and science. Even though she is stretched on all sides, she has enough time for love, she said.
