EXPERTS ARE COMING TO SPLIT TO DETERMINE THE CAUSES OF DEATH EPIDEMICS: We had this much funerals only during wartime
The heads of Referent center for influenza and epidemiology of Croatian institute for Public Health, Dr Vladimir Drazenovic and Dr Bernard Kaic are arriving today to Split. The cause of arrival is the increased mortality in the Split area.
- We had 153 funerals this January, and in the same time last year we had 98. The increase is indicative, this kind of numbers were not recorded during peacetime. I don't remember anything similar, and i have been in Lovrinac for 11 years, and neither does the man who has been here since 1973. We had to introduce eight funeral so the people don't have to wait a week - said Petar Bilobrk, director of city cemetery Lovrinac.
Drazenovic and Kaic were encouraged by the alarming numbers published in media, and Split was mostly shocked by the news about two dead babies, influenza B, and RSV virus were discovered in one of the babies.
Baby that was infected with influenza B, and RSV virus fell asleep normally in the evening, without any sighs of sickness. They couldn't wake her up in the morning. Parents called an ambulance and they received instructions for reanimation. Doctors also tried to revive the baby but they had to declare death one hour later.
It was confirmed from Split hospital that two people died last year from influenza, and so far, this winter, six people have died. 11 death cases have been recorded in entire state, which brings us to the conclusion that there are most deaths in Split.
- We have only one hospital in split, it is possible that the entire procedure of reception and treatment lasts longer in Zagreb, so we will have more data about the epidemics. We will analyze the situation and we will try to draw some conclusions. According to the last data, the influenza virus epidemic is in decline - said Dr Nincevic from Split hospita.
It was confirmed that the type of virus is the same in Split as it is in the rest of Croatia.
