CREEPY CONFESSION OF A DOCTOR FROM RIJEKA: Two known surgeons raped me six times, and the worst was when they locked the door

Surgeon from Rijeka, who was reported for sexual harassment last year by a student of Medical faculty in Rijeka, was removed from the Head position of a hospital ward last week, decided by the Clinical Hospital Center in Rijeka, and before that he was fired from a professor position on faculty.

The same surgeon was reported in 2014 for sexual harassment by nurse, and that resulted in a warning and that he could lose his job, but that did not affect his progress in work. As the things are for now, he could lose his position.

There is a third report directly submitted to Croatian State Attorney's Office, and besides him, his older colleague was reported for sexual harassment, also a surgeon. They were reported by a young doctor currently living in Ireland, and she told everything to Nedeljni List, about this case. Her identity and the identity of the perpetrators are known only to the editorial staff. 

- I was an excellent pupil and a student. According to the scoring criteria, i received specialization from general surgery. Seeing the results, i got a call from the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka and i was told to come for an interview. I expected the words of welcome and instruction, instead, a lawyer took out a paper and put it on the table. She told me to sign the document that explained i was giving up from the specialization in favor of the next candidate on the list, because my personal opinion is that the specialization is not for me. Of course i did not sigh that, i got out with tears in my eyes, and she threatened me that if i don't walk away myself i will be fired, and it will be hard for me to get a job afterwards - said the young doctor.

She was forced to accept the job where they insulted her, belittled her, exclude her from conversation, underestimated her, changed instructions for work, set impossible deadlines, to be on multiple surgeries at the same time, they made insulting jokes on her account, sexual allusions, but the worst is yet to come - she said.

- The climax was when the door were locked, and he went towards to cabinet to get a bottle of whiskey. It was one of two surgeons who raped me. I can't keep quiet anymore, i had to say something to get it out of me. I kept it inside for too long. To the extent that it poured out of me through inconsolable crying, it returned to me in night mares, it led me to think about suicide or running away into imaginary world where i am protected - said the miserable girl.

There were a lot of touching, hugging, dragging, pushing, turning, holding hands, coming close to my face. Two surgeons who molested me are thought to be top experts.

- One of them raped me for almost a minute in 2009, and the second tried it few weeks later. In that attempt, after a long resistance i avoided forced sexual contact. The other surgeon orally raped me six times - said the doctor from Rijeka who was raped for years on work. He wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted, except at one time when he let me go. So, the raping happened seven times, plus two attempts. I am speaking about a seven years period. Everything else, psychological abuse, happened on daily bases - she said.

- In 2009 i said everything to my father, and to the chief of the ward in the same night. Father said not to report him because i will only have complications, but i decided to do it anyway. Former chief told me to report him if i wanted to, because this was not his first time , but he has strong connections behind his back and he always got away with it. I reported him last year, directly to the head of the hospital. I told him everything, and my mother was accompanying  me. Few days after i resigned with the explanation that i am quitting due to "years of mobbing in a very severe form that was conducted from the start when i began working in the Clinic, sexual abuse and from recently forced sexual intercourse - she adds.

- After that the lawyers of Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka sent me to interrogation, but besides the record, there were no reaction on their side. Two weeks after that i received an answer that they are prepared to terminate the employment relationship. Last year, I filed a complaint to the State Court. I talked to my friends about it, and I will not give details because of the judicial process. All have supported me. I waited this long because i expected for the chief of surgery to do something after my report. But since that did not happen, i called the director of the hospital. Then i waited for him to do something, but that did not happen. I was afraid to stand up to them, i was afraid for my job, career, the home where my father lives - she adds.

At the end she just walked away on her duty day, only calling her superior.

- He again shouted at me over the phone, that i can't cancel in the last moment, that he can't organize the service. It was just three days after the last rape. I just couldn't take it anymore, i was crying, i felt sick, i retreated more in myself, i had no energy nor i knew how to stand up to anyone.  I waited for my fiance to return from Ireland. When i told him, he took a vacation immediately and he came to Rijeka, and i never set foot in that hospital again - she remembers.

She is currently on a sick leave, but she wants to return to medicine. She will continue with her career in Ireland, and not in Rijeka Clinical Hospital Center.

- It is my life calling, and i hope i will be ready to return to work soon. I found peace in Ireland, warmth and help. I am working daily on recovering my health. I am going to psychiatrists and different therapists, and also the staff of Support services of the rape and sexual abuse are also supporting me - said this young doctor.
