WELL DONE, YOUTH: Serbian students the best in the world in the debate
At the World Universities Debating Championship held in the Netherlands Serbian students won first place in the category of English as a foreign language.
Whenever they go, they take a medal: You will surely cheer for them in 2017
Gold went to the hands of Milos Marjanovic from Faculty of Law and Teodora Resetar from Faculty of Philology.
They debated in finals against the students from Germany, China and Indonesia on the subject: "This home believes that European left should promote radically left political agenda, including nationalization of great industrial facilities, extremely high rates of taxes on riches and expanding the state of welfare".
More than 800 students participated in this competition from 95 countries on the world, And six teams were representing Serbia, from which three entered the quarterfinals in the category of English as a second language, stated by the debate network Open Communication.
Students that went to quarterfinals were Jelisaveta Stanisic (College of Business Economics and Entrepreneurship) and Jovan Petronijevic (College of Business Economics and Entrepreneurship), Djordje Jovicevic (Faculty of Political Science) and Ilija Ivanisevic (Faculty of Physics), Janko Djordjevic (Faculty of Law) and Ognjen Miladinovic (Faculty of Law).
Serbia was also represented by Aleksandra Mihajlovic (Faculty of Political Science) and Danica Panic (Faculty of Political Science), Milos Tanasic (Faculty of Law) and Andrija Kulezic (Faculty of Law).
Ognjen Miladinovic was named the best first speaker in the category of English as a foreign language and the sixth best speakers in the category of English as a second language, in addition to a great placement, Ognjen also set the world record for the most points scored oratory in the category of English as a foreign language.
Jelisaveta Stanisic was named the second best speaker in the category of English as a foreign language, Milos Marjanovic was declared the third Jovan Petronijevic fifth and Teodora Resetar ninth best speaker.
Let us remind you that our debate teams score victories on world and European championships few years in a row, including recently held European University debate championship from which we also returned as winners.
World university debate championship, which is held every year in a different country since 1981, is a championship in a form of British parliamentary debate, divided into three competitive categories (open category, English as a second language and English as a foreign language) and it is the biggest annual gathering of students in the world.
