She has been hiding for years that she doesn't have her periods: Confession of a Serbian girl with no uterus, she is one among 5.000 women

She is one in 5.000 woman and the only one in Serbia born without a uteruswith Rokitansky syndrome, and she ventured to talk about her problem. Kristina Savic (31) from Duvaniste near Sabac, was only 17 when the doctors discovered she was born without the organs that enables her to become a mother.

There are other possibilities of becoming a mother - surrogate motherhood and transplanting the uterus, however, the transplantation of that organ is still not legally allowed in our state, while the law which would enable the surrogacy is still on waiting.

I found that out when i was 17. I was in high school and i still did not have my menstrual cycle, and i was ashamed to tell my parentsIn one moment, they realized that i am in age when that should have already passed, so dad took me to the doctors. I wasn't told anything of course and dad was shocked as the doctor was. I remember doctor calling for his colleague. He said to her: "Come, take a look at this." They were both nodding. Doctor said that this was the first time he has seen this. I was born without an uterus - said Kristina.

She was born as a twin. Without uterus but with vaginal channel and healthy ovaries. Once a month her hormones are working as if she is having a period.

- I am a twin and that happens with twins. Namely, in the third month, while i was in my mother's stomach, the uterus did not develop. That wasn't that especially hard for me except seeing my parents suffering. They asked why such a tragedy to come to one of their child. But, as i grew up, i found a boy and a mother's instinct started kicking in, it was getting harder... Especially the stories of the environment like "she will never be married", "who will want to live with her", "why did he marry her"... A girl that comes to our village and that can't give birth is not accepted. As good as people are, it turns out to be back luck, she can't give them a grandchild, she is ruining their name - Kristina talks through tears.

Kristina has been married with Nebojsa (34) for six years and she was in a four year relationship with him before that. No matter that she cannot have a role of a mother all girls dream about, he is Kristina's greatest support.

- We agree completely, we support each other in anything. No matter that i have that problem, he never said anything bad about it. He knew that from the start and accepted me the way i am - she said.

Nebojsa adds that he would never have forgiven himself if he looked her in the eye and said something bad about it, or left her because of that:

- She told me immediately when we started dating. It is much easier to pass over such things together. I could not forgive myself if i said anything bad to her about that when we were in relationship, let alone when we married. I am besides her no matter what.

Kristina has a very tough time because she doesn't know any woman in Serbia with the same problem that could understand her completely. It is even harder when she goes to the celebration of some child's birthday and she must show happiness mixed with suffering.

- It is hard to get up in the morning with no obligations. I feel empty and incomplete. I always think there must be another solution. One of the options is uterus transplant. As soon as i heard about it i went to the doctor and he told me that it is possible, but uterus is not allowed to be transplanted here - said Kristina while her husband said that surrogate motherhood is safer and more healthier solution.

Telegraf editorial staff wishes all the best to Kristina and Nebojsa, and before all to accomplish themselves as a parents. Also, we give a great bow to Kristina because she mustered the courage to open her soul.
